SCOPE BEFORE ASSUMPTIONS

The rights are part
of the project.

A local portrait, a national ad, and a syndicated cover are different assignments. Define who can use the work, where it appears, how long it runs, and whether anyone else can distribute it. Read the pricing method ↗

01

Production & services

Price the work by client size and project scope.

Size affects production effort and coordination. Media rights follow actual use in step 02. Monthly and weekly engagements are budgeted only for the periods you enter.

New service lines inherit these sizes. Quoted fees, camera rentals, talent supplier costs and licensed usage keep their own pricing basis. Scheduling premiums depend on availability.

Select your services.

Add individual services to the estimate below. Use a custom line for work outside this menu. Check each scope before adding overlapping production or editing fees.

02

Usage & syndication

A separate license for every permitted use.

Print uses copies circulated per issue, image size, placement, image count, and issues. Editorial use and advertising have different planning rates. A photographer’s license does not include a model’s image rights. Changing licensed uses resets affected confirmations so the revised scope is reviewed before a final total.

Reprints, translations, publisher websites, and onward distribution need their own agreed scope.

03

Models, talent & agencies

Attendance, image rights, and representation priced apart.

Use one group only when models share the same rates and rights. Add another group for a different model, agency, or booking. Obtain actual agency and union quotes; their terms vary.

04

Camera, lighting & gear rentals

Equipment priced by quantity and billable time.

Select cameras, lenses, lighting, audio, grip and support equipment. These are DOC N.I.L. working rental rates, subject to availability and package confirmation. Operators, insurance, delivery and refundable equipment security holds are separate. Weekly rates are explicitly listed; the calculator does not convert calendar days automatically.

05

Direct costs & allowances

Include only costs outside the service fee.

Crew, equipment, studio / locations, hair and makeup, styling, casting, permits, insurance, travel, accommodation, props, printing, music / stock licenses, delivery, and media buying can be added here. Avoid charging twice for included post-production.

06

G&A & applicable tax

Overhead first. Tax on the correct taxable base.

8%
General & administrative

Added to eligible pre-tax service, license, talent, agency, and expense lines. Exclude a pass-through only when that is the agreed treatment.

Every charge. Every assumption. One working brief.

This is a planning worksheet. It does not grant any rights or confirm a booking. A written proposal, supplier quotes, releases, and license agreement confirm the final scope and fees.
