DOC N.I.L. / PRICING METHOD

Price the work.
Define the use.

Production and licensing answer different questions. Our calculator separates them, then accounts for talent, agency charges, direct costs, 8% G&A, and applicable tax.

01 / PRODUCTION

Effort and complexity.

The service ranges are DOC N.I.L. planning prices. Brand size and project scope reflect coordination, deliverables, approvals, and production complexity. A celebrity or enterprise engagement needs its own scope; audience size alone is not a license fee.

Monthly and weekly services multiply by the number of periods entered. A supplier-agreed amount can replace a planning range. Add only expenses that the service fee excludes.

02 / CREATIVE RIGHTS

Each use has a scope.

ASMP distinguishes the cost of making the work from its license. AMA guidance identifies media, territory, term, exclusivity, and image count as license dimensions. Editorial publications also need circulation and placement information.

Our working print rate is a per-image, per-issue amount for a named publication, adjusted for copies circulated, placement, and territory. Paid digital uses licensed impression bands, assets, term, and territory. Owned digital uses assets and months. These monetary rates and factors are DOC N.I.L. assumptions, not an industry tariff.

A negotiated whole-license amount replaces the rate-card calculation completely. Covers, spreads, repeated issues, print ads, and advertorials are specified explicitly. A print license does not silently include digital archives or reprints.

03 / SYNDICATION

Name every outlet.

Price each named publisher and medium separately. Mark syndicated outlets in their own license rows. Do not multiply one publisher’s circulation by a guessed network count. Open-ended distribution, all-media rights, perpetual rights, copyright assignment, AI / training use, broadcast, outdoor, and packaging require a specifically negotiated fee and written scope.

An entered whole-license fee includes all scope stated in that row, including any exclusivity. With the planning rate card, an agreed exclusivity premium is an additional fee.

04 / TALENT + AGENCY

Three different charges.

Model session fees, model image rights, and the client-side agency fee are separate. Overtime uses the agreed day rate, included hours, actual hours, and overtime factor. Travel-day and other attendance fees are entered per model.

The editable 20% agency starting assumption is not a universal commission. Select whether it applies to attendance only or attendance plus model usage. If the booking quote already includes the client agency fee, select “already included.” Union residuals and fringes require an actual contract-based quote. Changes to licensed uses reset affected model-rights confirmations; changes to booking terms reset affected agency and union confirmations. Blank agency percentages, worked hours, or required overtime factors keep the total pending rather than silently assuming a rate.

05 / OVERHEAD

G&A is an additional 8%.

G&A equals 8% of all selected eligible pre-tax fees and costs: services, creative licenses, model attendance, model rights, agency fees, and direct expenses. Service, license, and expense rows can exclude an agreed pass-through from that base.

A contingency is a separate unspent production reserve, calculated on services, attendance, equipment rentals and direct expenses. G&A is not charged on the reserve. A nonrefundable retainer is credited toward the project total without increasing the price.

06 / TAX

Verify the taxable base.

Tax equals the entered verified rate times the selected taxable line items. Include G&A only where applicable. Tax treatment depends on the jurisdiction and what is delivered; for example, Alabama distinguishes delivered photographs from certain separately stated services.

The calculator requires a jurisdiction, rate, and taxable selections, or a documented exemption / non-taxable basis. Unverified tax remains pending. It is not automatically zero.

07 / PREMIUM PROJECT FEES

Size, scope and timing.

DOC N.I.L. offers 115 specialist services across brand strategy, identity, websites, photography, cinema and video, editing, content, campaigns, management and operations consulting. The base fees reflect a premium positioning. The smallest client profile and focused project use the base range; medium and large client profiles use 2× and 4× service-effort factors. Expanded and full-production scopes use 1.8× and 3.2× project factors.

The calculator shows these factors separately. A quoted service fee bypasses them. Quantities multiply only the service's stated unit: project, month, week, day, hour or additional website page. Original media, equipment, supplier costs and rights are added only where the scoped service excludes them.

Priority or accelerated scheduling adds 25% or 50% to eligible service lines. Quoted service fees require explicit inclusion before that premium is added. It does not multiply equipment rentals, talent supplier fees, or usage licenses. Scheduling remains subject to availability.

08 / EQUIPMENT RENTALS

The exact kit. The right period.

Camera bodies, cinema and RF lenses, lighting, grip, audio and support equipment have their own daily or weekly planning rates. Rental charge = quantity × billable periods × the stated daily, weekly or negotiated rate. DOC N.I.L.'s published weekly planning rates equal three daily charges; this is our working billing policy, not a universal rental-house rule. Calendar days are not automatically converted to billable weeks.

Company and project size do not multiply gear charges. Package inclusions, lens mounts, rental dates and availability need confirmation. Equipment already included in a service or rental package is marked included so it is not charged again. Coverage and delivery are separate inputs.

A refundable rental security hold is an additional cash hold. It is excluded from service fees, 8% G&A and the taxable estimate. Any actual nonrefundable fee is entered as a separate cost under the applicable tax treatment. The nonrefundable service retainer is credited toward the project total and does not add to the price.

Print base fee: per image, full page, one issue, one named publication, one named country.

Copies per issueEditorialPrint ad / advertorial
Up to 10,000$175$350
10,001–50,000$250$500
50,001–100,000$350$750
100,001–500,000$500$1,250
500,001–1,000,000$750$2,000
Over 1,000,000$1,000$3,000

Print fee = base × images × issues × placement × territory. Placement: quarter page 0.5×, half page 0.75×, full page 1×, spread 1.5×, cover 2.5×. Territory: one country 1×, a specified multi-country region 1.5×, worldwide 2.5×. Exclusivity adds the negotiated premium.

Owned digital: $150 per asset per 12 months, prorated by months, for the named brand’s owned channels with worldwide access. Paid digital: per-asset base of $250 / $750 / $1,500 / $3,000 / $5,000 for total campaign impression caps up to 100,000 / 1 million / 5 million / 20 million / over 20 million, respectively. Multiply by assets, max(1, months ÷ 3), and the territory factor. Paid media spend remains separate.

These are DOC N.I.L. working assumptions. They are not verified market averages, a statutory schedule, or a third-party quote. Enter a negotiated whole-license amount to replace these rates. No rate-card factors are added to that amount.
